Grady Burnett 

Grady Burnett graduated from high school in Slaton, Texas 

Joined the U.S. Army after high school

After leaving the service he played football for Coffeyville College in Coffeyville, Kansas

Married Shirley McBride in Coffeyville, Kansas

Played football for West Texas State (now West Texas A&M), earning a bachelors degree in 1951

Coached all sports at Springlake-Earth Consolidated High School, 1951-1953. 

Coached football and other sports at Canadian High School, 1953-1961 (head coach last 5).

Elementary Principal, Vega, Texas, 1961-1962

Head football and track coach at Wheeler High School, 1962-1964

Head football coach Wylie High School, 1964-1970

Principal, Wylie High School 1970-1980.

Died April 7, 1980
 
Two children: 
Rick - WHS. Graduate-1970 BA - UTA, 1974, MA - ETSU, 1982.  Wife Wanda Strickland Burnett, WHS graduate-1969.  Lives in Frisco, Texas
Roe Burnett Lear Machen WHS Graduate-1974. BA - Texas Tech, 1978.  Lives in Corpus Christi, Texas

Grady Burnett Jr. High School
Burnett Jr. High is named after Coach Burnett.  Mr. Burnett was the first principal of this building when it was opened in 1976 as the new Wylie High School.  Click on photo above.
