James Cross

James Cross was born in Wylie, Texas on December 30, 1935.  He attended all grades in Wylie schools and graduated in 1954.  While in school he played football, baseball and basketball.  In football, he was a 3-year letter man  and co-captain his senior year.  He also lettered in baseball and basketball.  He was a High School Favorite his senior year.

James married Rosamond Tackett on June 21st 1958.  They had two children   both of whom graduated from Wylie High School:  Ronnie in 1978 and Terri in 1980.  James also had two grandchildren who graduated from Wylie High School:  Orie in 2006 and Tobie in 2010.

James served his country in the military from 1958 to 1962.  He enjoyed a 35 year career with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.  

James lived his entire life in Wylie except for his time in the military and for three years spent on assignment in Arkansas for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company.  He retired from Fireman's Fund in 1991.Little Rock, Fund in 1991.

James was a member of the Wylie Church of Christ.  He served as a Deacon from 1973 to 2003 when he was appointed Elder.  He served in that position until his death in April of 2009.

​James also served two term on the Wylie I.S.D. School Board from 1973 to 1979.

James' hobbies were fishing and deer hunting.  And, of course, on Friday night you would find him at the Pirate Football games.  He rarely ever missed a game  He bought his first season ticket when Shaffer Stadium was built in 1976 and held them until his death.  James loved telling stories of which he had many.  He loved Wylie and considered it a real honor to be inducted into the Wylie Sports Hall of Honor.
